What to Wear to (and During) a Massage
If you’re new to massage, one of the first questions that might come to mind is: What should I wear? The simple answer—whatever makes you feel the most comfortable.
When you come in for your appointment, casual and loose-fitting clothing is best. Soft joggers, yoga pants, or a cozy T-shirt work perfectly. Once you’re in the treatment room, your therapist will step out to give you privacy while you undress to your own level of comfort. Most people choose to remove most of their clothing and rest under the sheet or blanket provided, while others may prefer to stay partially clothed. Some clients are comfortable being fully nude, and that’s fine too—you’ll always be covered appropriately throughout the session. Massage therapists are trained in professional draping techniques, which means only the area being worked on will ever be uncovered.
If you’d rather keep clothing on, that works as well—especially during styles like Thai or sports massage. In that case, lightweight, flexible fabrics such as athletic shorts or a sports bra are great choices.
The most important thing to remember is that massage is about you feeling safe, comfortable, and cared for. Don’t be shy about letting your therapist know your preferences—they’ll be happy to adjust so you can relax and fully enjoy the experience.
